In this workshop, Moirai will take students through the history of American Tribal Style costuming and make-up. We will also look at identifying the different musical layers in any danceable music, so that the dancer can start to think like a musician and work with it instead of against it. There will be frame drum, Egyptian tabla, zil (finger cymbals) and riqq (tambourine) examples and exercises too, so if you have any of these instruments – bring them with you, if not – your hands will be enough! Many of the steps are based on traditional dances from India, Spain and the Middle East as well as Oriental dance. This workshop will cover ATS movements which were inspired by Indian or Flamenco dance. This workshop requires an understanding and ability to execute the following moves: Arabic Step, Egyptian Basic, Hip Bump / Choo-choo, ¾ Shimmy, Taxeem and Bodywave. Experience Level: Intermediate/ Advanced Cost: £20 Workshop 4 – Tribal Fusion: Strength in the Karsilama Rhythm with Hannah of AnaRkali Time: 3:30 – 5:30pm Tribal fusion blends the original force, power and vocabulary of ATS movements with an artistic twist of freedom and an eclectic range of other dance forms. Concentrating on the slinkier and richer of the Tribal fusion movements and Romani inspired flourishes, Hannah will guide you through the earthy Turkish 9/8 Rhythm Karsilama.
